Fleischmann BJ8 Restoration -
Fred and Meg Fleischmann are no strangers to the retoration of English sportscars. Their latest project is a 1967 BJ8 that was in tough shape. Others restorations include a Triumph Spitfire, 1963 Austin Healey 3000 and a 1972 E-Type Jaguar. Fred and Meg have taken the time to write several article chronicling their work to-date, complete with photos. They will also provide subsequent articles as work progresses. Thanks Fred & Meg. A Healey Story - As many of you know, Mike and Sue Swanger (I think mainly Mike with the blessing of Sue) have been working on the restoration of a 1954 Austin Healey for a number of years. Mike is performing a complete frame-off restoration, and is doing most of the work himself. He even built a rotisserie jig to work on the chassis. Mike has taken the time to write an article chronicling his work to-date - complete with photos. He will also provide subsequent articles as work progresses. Thanks Mike!

The club was organized in 1978 by a small group of Healey enthusiasts. In 1979, the Wisconsin Wisconsin Austin Club was officially sanctioned by the national Austin Healey Club of America.

Today, the club has almost 70 members and exists to provide it's members with social activities, as well as, a forum to share information that promotes and encourages the preservation, restoration and driving enjoyment of the Austin Healey motorcars.

The club serves all of Wisconsin, and is
very active and participates in both local and national activities throughout the year.

Dear Healey Club Members,

Happy New Year!

Attached is the preliminary Events Schedule for 2012.

While not all of the details are worked out for some of the events, I wanted to get this in your hands so you can plan your calendars accordingly. We're still working on scheduling one more event for 2012 and will send out updated schedules as details are finalized.

We have several exciting new events planned for this year in addition to our annual events.

The first event for 2012 is the Mid-Winter Rally scheduled for Feb 18th. Since moving the Winter Dinner to Spring, we needed to get the troops together to help shrug off the mid-winter blues. Kaye Kovacs is planning this informal get together and will be coming out with the details shortly.

Speaking of Spring Dinner, we have a new exciting and unique venue for this year's dinner - The Harley Davidson Museum! The dinner is scheduled for May 5th, and in addition to great entree's and deserts, will include a free pass to the museum for each guest. You won't want to miss this one - mark your calendars today.

Finally, as mentioned earlier, we have several new events for this year. First, we have scheduled a joint event with our British cousins, the MG Club, for May 19th. They traditionally have a car rally/tour in early May and so we thought this would be a fun event to do jointly. We are also planning an outing at Miller Park complete with a tail gate party for either July or August. Unfortunately, we can't secure the area so Healeys are optional.

Check out the rest of the schedule plan to make as many events as possible.

Let me know if you have ideas for other for events - your ideas a help are greatly appreciated.

By the way, I'm still looking for event coordinators for the Botham Weekend and the Fall Weekend Tour.

Thanks,

Bill

Jun 5th - Brew City Cruise Night - All British Night Highland House Restaurant located at 12741 North Port Washington Road in Mequon. Starts at 5:30 PM until the last car leaves!

Jun 17th - British Car Field Days 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM - Rain or Shine. This is always a popular summer event - the turnout of British made cars and motorcycles is impressive. It's a fun way to spend the early part of Father's Day and still be able to spend time with the family in the late afternoon. Last year there were 25+ Healeys. Be sure to register beforehand (it's less money and speeds up check-in)

Jun 16th-22nd - AHCA Conclave 2012, Louisville, KY. So far, there are 13 cars (25 people) from the Wisconsin club that are registered to attend. 11 of those will be caravanning down to Louisville on Saturday the 16th with a stopover in Indianapolis - a trip to the Indianapolis Speedway is planned for Saturday afternoon. If you're interested in joining the group, contact Bill Nicklas. Speaking from experience, it's always a good idea to nail down hotel accommodations early, as well as register for the conclave/events; they tend to fill up fast! This year the Conclave should be well attended because of its central location. Check out the conclave website for a registration form and more details

Jul 14th - The Hawk w/Brian Redman - Vintage Cars, Elkart Lake. While this event runs from the 12th thru the 15th, we plan to drive up on Saturday in the afternoon to catch the car show on the streets of Elkhart Lake, enjoy some beverages and have dinner somewhere in the area. We will leave from the Panera Bread on Mequon Road at 3:00 in the afternoon.

Aug 10th-12th - Botham Vineyards Weekend - Barneveld WI. While the details for this year's weekend will be worked out, typically we meet for lunch on that Friday and caravan together to our destination. Saturday will include a tour of some type along with free time in the afternoon. Dinner Saturday night will be at an upscale restaurant in the area, and Sunday is the car show at the Botham Vineyard in Barneveld Wisconsin. Last year we had 8 cars and 16 couples on Sunday, and weather was beautiful.

Aug 17th - Healeys at Miller Park - Brewers against the Phillies New event this year. We are planning on a Friday evening ball game, complete with a tailgate party prior to the game - Tailgate party starts at 4:30 pm and the game at 7:10 pm. The plan is to caravan to the ballpark so we can park close together - meeting location TBD. Unfortunately, we can't guarantee a secure area at the ball park to park our cars so bringing your Healey is optional. We have decided to go with Second Level Outfield seats at a cost of $32 each. We can reserve a block of tickets by paying 50% down on whatever quantity we want (20 ticket minimum). In order to determine how many ticket to reserve; please email Walker Young walkeryoung1@aol.com as soon as possible and let him know if you are interested in going and how many tickets you want. Final payment for your tickets will be due June 8th.

Sept 8th - Elkhart Lake Vintage Festival - "Chili Blastoff" This is always an annual club favorite! Last year we had 16 healeys and 40+ people for lunch. Later, we'll check out the gorgeous cars at the "Gathering on the Green" on the front lawn of the Osthoff Resort. We'll catch dinner later that evening. Event Coordinators: Fred Thomas & Penny Rushing

List Favorite Suppliers & Automotive Specialists on Angie's List

Austin-Healey Club members have a unique WIN/WIN opportunity in front of them. By taking a few moments to list their favorite classic sports car suppliers and mechanical consultants on Angie's List we'll all benefit.

Angie's List has created a "Classic Cars" section and is seeking input from clubs around the country that can recommended to those who subscribe to Angie's List for recommendations. Each verified report can earn $5 for the Austin-Healey Club of America if you designate it as your charity. Those who already have done so, say it takes about 3-5 minutes to complete a report and receive verification that the charity they designated will receive $5 per report. You may provide more than one report, and each one verified earns AHCA $5. Here's how to do it.

1. Go to https://www.angieslist.com/AngiesList/review/charitablereports.aspx
It is very simple to submit a report. There are big buttons that say "continue" and lots of prompts if you leave anything out.

2. When you click on the link above, you'll be prompted to set up a profile, including a password. Angie's List does not accept anonymous reports and requires a valid email address as part of the reporting process.

3. Select or type in Austin Healey Club of America when it asks for a charitable organization and follow the instructions.

4. Next, you'll be asked for a provider name. It is very likely that your providers are not on the List yet, so you can click "add" to add a provider.

5. When you add a provider, you'll be asked for their contact information. There are a few required fields here…like the kind of information you'd find on a business card. You'll be asked to choose some categories for the service provider (i.e. alternators, painting, etc.)

6. You'll next be taken to the report page, where you're asked to give grades via radio buttons and you're able to write comments about your experience.

7. Click submit. This will prompt an email to be sent to the email address you entered before. Your report will not be submitted until you verify your email address.

Once you verify your address, the report will be submitted and you can leave another report. This may seem like a lot of steps, but it's pretty quick…and once you've submitted your first report, it's very easy to go back and do more!

Additionally, for doing just ONE report you'll get a FREE 1 YEAR MEMBERSHIP to the "Classic Car" section of Angie's List. You'll get a special follow-up email with the details.

Thank you for your support, enjoy!
