I have owned my 1967 Austin Healey for the past 37 years having purchased it in 1972. The first attached
photo was taken as I arrived home with the Healey. A then thinner me is standing next to it. Well maybe just
a little thinner. The second photo shows the car as it appears today.
I purchased the Healey from an individual who had just moved to Wisconsin from Texas. He claimed that his
mother-in-law did not want her daughter riding in the Healey as she thought it was too dangerous. I don't
know if she was worried about the condition of the car or his driving. I am sure it was his driving. He claimed
that the car had not seen any snow or road salt, which I can confirm as it is free of any rust, including the
undercarriage. The Healey is very original down to the factory installed AM radio.
At the time I purchased it, a neighbor and I had been traveling all over Southeastern Wisconsin following up
on advertisements for sport cars as I had just completed restoration of a 1933 Ford stake body truck and now
wanted something that could keep up with modern traffic. The cruising speed for the truck was 35 MPH on a
good day. I was not necessarily looking for a Healey and in fact knew very little about them. I just wanted
something that had been abused raced or rusted out, as there was a lot of that iron to be had at the time.
My wife and I have had a lot of fun with the car over the years. Except for a flat tire while staying over night
in a hotel, the car has never failed us and we have put approximately 30,000 miles on it over the past 37
years. My three children have grown up in the back seat and my son continues to enjoy the Healey, although
now it is from the front seat (passenger side only).
